I don't need 30 meters to feel good in the air; 8 meters is good enough to fly!

Freeride ski or off pist ski existe since the beginning of skiing. But now, because of TV, new fat skis, and crazy riedrs who push their limits, it's much more fashon.
Freeride doesn't mean the same thing for all the riders. For some of them, it's gonna be short turn in deep snow, or straigh line, jump, etc.
For me, deep snow mean, fast big turn and cliff jump. Deep snow is not only the best type of snow for skiing. It's the easiest one. Try slushy snow in April, it's great fun too, and much more difficult. That's my favorite game, (even if it's not the clevest thing to do)making spring avalanche, and ride on it...
freaky guys jump huge cliff: In 2006, the biggest cliff jump has been done in USA: 70 meters!!!. Even if the lending wasn't perfect, the rider didn't hurt.
